Mukund Varadarajan Biography:Major Mukund Varadarajan was a decorated Indian Army officer, remembered for his valor and posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime gallantry award. Born on April 12, 1983, in Tambaram, Tamil Nadu, he came from a family with a tradition of military service, including his grandfather and two uncles. After earning a commerce degree and a journalism diploma, Mukund joined the Indian Army, graduating from the Officers Training Academy in 2006. He served with the Rajput Regiment and later joined the Rashtriya Rifles, a unit focused on counterinsurgency operations.

On April 25, 2014, Major Varadarajan led an anti-terror operation in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, targeting Hizbul Mujahideen militants responsible for recent attacks. Despite sustaining injuries, he eliminated multiple terrorists before succumbing to his wounds. His bravery and leadership were recognized through the Ashoka Chakra award. Major Varadarajan is survived by his wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese, and daughter Ashreya, and his legacy is honored both by his family and the broader Indian community.
