Kithure Kindiki To Replace Gachagua:Recently, Kenya’s National Assembly approved the nomination of Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President after Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment. Gachagua, who served as Deputy President to William Ruto, was removed due to accusations of misconduct and undermining the presidency. This unanimous vote by all 236 Members of Parliament present reflects support for Kindiki, who currently serves as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration. President Ruto had 14 days to fill the position following Gachagua’s impeachment but swiftly nominated Kindiki. This decision, however, faced a setback when a Nairobi court temporarily blocked the appointment pending a hearing.
Kithure Kindiki, a lawyer and former Senator for Tharaka Nithi County, holds degrees from the University of Nairobi and a Ph.D. from the University of Pretoria. He initially gained national attention as a lawyer on Ruto’s defense team in the International Criminal Court. Kindiki is seen as a stabilizing figure, having built a reputation for political neutrality and experience, which may help bridge Kenya’s political divides.
